Can You Stay Over a Year at Long-Term Treatment Centers?

Rehab isn’t just about detoxing from drugs and alcohol, that’s only the first step. True recovery comes from professional care that can help you rebuild your life and give you the tools to cope in the future. Inpatient treatment programs can last between 28 days right up to a year. If you feel your circumstances are especially severe, you might wonder if in long-term treatment centers, can you stay for more than a year?

At Findlay Recovery Center, we specialize in providing inpatient rehab programs designed to help you beat addiction for good. Here is why long-term treatment programs work and why you might stay longer.

Why long-term treatment?

Long Term Treatment Centers

All rehab programs are broken down into stages. The first is detoxification, where the patient is helped to safely detox, rehabilitation, which usually consists of group and one-to-one therapy, and then post-treatment aftercare which can take the form of continuing outpatient therapy and monitoring.

When you are initially assessed, you will be told the length and type of treatment that will benefit you.

Long-term treatment centers, can you stay for more than a year?

Typically, most long-term treatment programs last for a year, but there are some exceptions to this.

For example, if you have had a number of relapses after completing shorter treatment programs. In this case, a longer time to adapt and work through your treatment may be required.

The length and severity of your substance abuse. If you have been addicted to drugs and alcohol for a long time, then it may be necessary to stay longer in order to tackle your substance abuse.

Contributing conditions. If you have experienced trauma or have been diagnosed with a mental health condition, then these have to be tackled as well to give you the very best chance of a successful recovery, this may extend your recovery time beyond a year.

You are progressing slowly. Long-term inpatient care is usually capped at twelve months because that is the time it takes for the majority of people to successfully recover. However, in some cases, progress is much slower and might not be complete within the timescale.

Who decides on the treatment length?

When you are initially assessed, our team will identify the length of treatment we believe will be the optimum time for you to undergo recovery. Your progress will be monitored closely and, if necessary, your treatment length may be extended. This is almost always done via consultation and agreement with the team involved in your recovery care, giving you the very best chance of long-term recovery.
